Louise Daniel talks to caterer Lorraine Trehane about dishy deserts and being more temperamental than the toaster.
Lorraine Trehane, is 57 today (happy birthday Lorraine!) and looking every inch a glamour puss as she struts her elegant stuff in our Weekend makeover.
Mum of two, Lorraine is a bubbly personality who works for Elior – a French sub-contractor at Tesco Lee Mill. She dishes up meals to the 500 staff at the huge supermarket.
"I work in what's called the colleague room – what used to be called the staff canteen. I set up for breakfast, but the staff favourite are my desert pots – cherry cheesecake banoffee pie.
"The recipe is provided by the company but I've tweaked it by adding a bit more cream and chopped nuts."
Apart from adding extra treats to staff sweets she like being out front laying our breakfasts.
"They call me the hot plate queen – I have to have everything set out the right way."
Mornings are the busiest time for Lorraine and the team, but she loves to have a chat with the people who start their day with a full English.
"The cooked breakfasts are very popular. Between 9.15 -10am is absolute bedlam. I love seeing the staff and have a great rapport with most of them.
"You can always have a laugh and joke – especially when I burn the toast. The standing joke is the toaster is more temperamental than me!"
Moody or not, Lorraine is big-hearted and cares for her mum who lives close by.
"I'm a bit of home bird really and my mum lives across the road so I see her every day."
Lorraine says her uniform is light, comfortable and ideal for hot kitchen work.
"The uniform helps us stand out and it's comfortable. This time of year can be can unbearable because of the heat especially when you're stood over a hot plate and the kitchen at the back of you."
"Uniforms make life so much easier – just like school uniforms. It saves hassle."
Lorraine was chuffed to have the full works for make-up and revealed the whole make-over experience was a real treat.
"I wasn't 100 per cent at first but I ended up feeling very elegant. The shoes were lovely. I don't wear high heels because I've got back problems but they were so stylish and comfortable."
"A lovely girl did my make up at the Dior counter – she looked at me and gave me all the colours I like – greens and greys and plum."
Do you know a women who wears a uniform? Why not nominate her for a makeover?
