Lengthy delays on the Calais crossings and the strength of the pound has seen Plymouth's Brittany Ferries record the highest summer passenger numbers in 13 years.
During the summer months of July and August Brittany Ferries carried 838,000 passengers across all its routes, the highest number for 13 years.
This was an increase of 7% on the same period last year with Plymouth-Roscoff showing a 3% uplift to 148,000 passengers.
Mike Bevens, Group Commercial Director said: "The strengthening pound has undoubtedly boosted demand this summer for France and Spain which now offer even better value.
"This is especially true for families staying at, for example, a gite or a campsite, who can also enjoy the convenience of being able to take their own car.
"Other factors, such as the problems at Calais and unrest in other countries, have contributed to our success, as holidaymakers have sought alternative ways of getting to the Continent and have been opting for more secure destinations closer to home."
