PLYMOUTH architecture practice AWW is growing at such a pace it has moved into a bigger base – where there is room for further expansion.
The company is now located in spacious, 2,000sq ft, waterfront offices at Sutton Harbour's East Quay House.
The new centre is just around the corner from its original base, an 800sq ft site, on the Sutton Road side of the same building.
"The new office is a real gear shift for us," said director and architect Ian Sanders. "The old place was like a cupboard.
"We have been at capacity for some time. We needed more space; this is more than twice the size.
"And we have more staff, eight full-time and permanent, and another three who come down on a regular basis.
"There were only six of us before, and we are still looking to recruit; we need another architect."
AWW is based across three centres: London, Bristol and Plymouth.
The Plymouth office is now the focal point of the firm's international work.
"Our local and regional work is still strong and growing, and because of our development in international work it gave us the justification to move to a place where we had more room – and room to expand," Mr Sanders said.
"There is expansion room here which we can use, the flexibility to grow."
He said the new base has a "modern studio feel" – and being on the waterfront is key.
"Plymouth is all about the water," he said.
And with nearby businesses including law firm Foot Anstey, accountants Francis Clark, and Swedish bank Handelsbanken, Mr Sanders said: "There's a real hub of professional services here.
"If we weren't interested in being prominent we wouldn't have moved to the waterfront.
"It's important we are part of the landscape and the heritage trail."
