Crowdfunding effort to light up Plymouth's Palace Theatre reaches halfway point

A CROWDFUNDING drive to help light up the Palace Theatre has nearly halfway towards its target.

The charity GO! appealed to residents and businesses to help with the first phase of its lighting and electrical work at the Victorian building ahead of a hoped-for Christmas concert.

The group is aiming to raise £15,000 in just six weeks at its Crowdfunder page, found at crowdfunder.co.uk/gopalaceplymouth

By the end of last week the group had been handed a staggering £6,300 and recent reports suggest a further £1,500 has come in over the past 24 hours.

Heather Hunter, the chief executive of the GO! charity, said: "We want to say a huge thank you to all those who have donated to the Palace Theatre 'Let there be Light' Crowdfunder already – we are pleased to announce the campaign has now raised over £6,300 which is great news.

"With renovations well underway we are well on track for hosting the first live concert in over three decades.

"We do still need the public's help though and can accept pledges of any amount at our crowdfunder site.

"Just this morning we received three calls from local businesses who will soon be making larger donations of £1,000 or £500 which will give them the special perk of exclusive use of the Theatre in the future.

"Although there is only 17 days of our appeal left we are expecting this to be a popular perk and we are unlikely to be able to repeat the offer in future funding bids.

"So now is the time to pledge if this is an offer that will be useful to you in the future.

"However we are really asking anyone who holds the Palace dear to pledge just a few pounds to help us reach and hopefully exceed our target."
