A POPULAR Plymouth pub has reopened following a £200,000 revamp, with new staff, more ales and improved dishes now on offer.

Punters were greeted in style last Friday when The Brass Monkey, of Royal Parade, opened its doors for the first time since works were completed.

Former Royal Marine Mark Ormrod, who lost three limbs while serving in Afghanistan, officially re-opened the pub before customers took to the stage as part of The Monkey's weekly karaoke night.

As part of the makeover, the pub has recruited five additional members of staff to supplement the wider range of cask and craft ales now available and the new food menu, which includes a choice of burgers, salads, light bites and classic favourites.

Nicola Oliver, who is the general manager, said: "This refurbishment perfectly coincides with our fantastic new menu, which is full of lots of delicious new dishes as well as great quality pub food favourites.

"We have one of the best ranges of cask beers in the town and now with the introduction of craft beer too, The Brass Monkey can offer the seasoned beer enthusiast even more reason to visit."

As well as the pub's popular karaoke night of a Friday, The Brass Monkey will host a sports night on Monday, an open mic night on a Tuesday and a student night on the Wednesday.

For any budding quiz teams, the pub will host a weekly quiz night every Thursday.

Nicola added: "I am particularly excited to add several new nights to our repertoire. Our customers have never been shy about taking to the mic during karaoke nights or our own 'M Factor' competition.

"Now they can showcase their talent every week during open mic night too."
